Rare October Winter Storm to Pummel US East Coast?
Although the winter season has yet to arrive, it appears as though people along the East Coast will have to brace themselves for an early winter storm this Halloween weekend.
The winter storm is expected to hit the Tri-state area Saturday and Sunday with some areas projected to receive as much as six to 12 inches of snow.
Some weather experts predict that the storm will bring the most snow ever seen during the month of October in East Coast history and currently 25 million people are under a Winter Storm Watch.
Some concerns are that the projected heavy snow could cause power outages and damage the trees in the region, most of which still have leaves on them.
Snow this early is in the year is rare, even for the frigid East Coast.
Pennsylvania is expected to get six to 10 inches and National Weather Service meteorologist John La Corte told The Associated Press, “This is very, very unusual.”
He added that he is concerned about the storm as it has “all the look and feel of a classic midwinter nor’easter" and the meteorologist believes that the storm could prove to be "very dangerous."
In New York it is expected that six inches of snow will fall Saturday.
Many find the storm to be truly significant as the last time that snow was measurable during the month of October in New York’s famous Central Park was in 1952.
People living along the East Coast have expressed concerns that the looming storm may mean that winter may be particularly harsh and long this year.
However, weather experts suggest that the weekend storm is not a sign of months ahead of terrible weather.
