Raven-Symoné Stars in 'Sister Act' Broadway Musical

Raven-Symoné is set to play a lead role in the hit musical "Sister Act," her first time back on the Broadway stage in over 20 years.

The renowned actress, who is best known for her role as "Olivia" on TV sitcom "The Cosby Show," will star as Deloris Van Cartier in the hit musical.

The 26-year-old will replace current cast lead Patina Miller in the upcoming show, which is scheduled to begin in March, according to Deadline.com.

The musical is based on Scott Rudin and Teri Schwartz's film "Sister Act," which follows the complex life of Las Vegas lounge singer Deloris and her transition from sin to faith with the help of charismatic nuns.

Raven, who has also had a brief stint as a singer, is also known for starring in the hit show "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper" and more recently, Disney's "That's So Raven."

The actress, whose full name is Raven-Symoné Christina Pearman, recently tried her luck with the ABC family comedy series "State of Georgia," although it lasted only 12 episodes.

On Jan 15, Raven told a HollywoodLife reporter that she may be moving to New York City, although she did not confirm her new role.

"I actually had a couple positive goals rather then resolutions. I am focusing on my acting craft, and hopefully I'll be moving to NYC soon," Raven told HollywoodLife.

When asked about her role in Sister Act, Raven said, "we'll see," and crossed her fingers before shooting a smile.

Raven is one of the most successful child actors in the entertainment industry, and like her peers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, she has ventured out into various industries to become a more entrepreneurial businesswoman.

Also described as a dancer, producer and model, Raven is said to be exploring her creative side and may soon be able to add "designer" to the list.

"I want to vacation more, and enjoy life a little more. … I actually have a fashion venture that I would like to see do better this year," Raven said.

"Sister Act" is expected to run at the Broadway Theatre for a minimum six-month engagement.
