Recovering Drug Addict Finds $125,000 in Bag on Street, Returns It: 'God's the Reason I'm Here' (VIDEO)
Joe Cornell is in a rehabilitation program at a Salvation Army in Fresno, Calif. to kick an addiction to meth. Financially struggling, he only had $1 for lunch last Wednesday when he found a mysterious bag on the road. He opened the bag to find $125,000 in twenties and hundreds, lost when it fell from a Brinks security truck.
Cornell, no stranger to temptation, at first struggled with what he'd do with the found fortune. However, he contemplated the bigger picture.
"Sometimes it felt like, why do I want to be here?" he told KMPH. "...And I'm finding that God's the reason I'm here. He's got a higher purpose for me, so I'm just trying to follow His will."
And Cornell has a legacy to establish.
"'...I have a grandbaby due any time, my fourth, and I thought: 'What would I want her to think of me?'" he told the Fresno Bee. "That made my mind up right there."
Cornell returned the cash to Brinks, who rewarded him $5,000 for his honesty and donated another $5,000 to the Salvation Army rehab program.
