Twenty-eight-years after the band formed, critics are generally pleased by the work coming out from the rock group.
One such critic, Sarah Rodman of the Boston Globe said of the album, “With its blend of hard rock, funk, pop, punk, disco, psychedelia, and hip-hop, the album offers a few standouts, including the refreshingly bright and Beatles-evoking “Happiness Loves Company,” the sinuous “Did I Let You Know,” and the expansive “Brendan’s Death Song,” which moves from pastoral acoustic picking to percussive maelstrom.”
Rodman also found that some of the vocals have a tendency to be “hit or miss” however added that in the end, “If you’ve come this far with the Peppers, you’re with them.”
Jerry Shriver of USA Today argues that, “Bassist Flea and especially vocalist Anthony Kiedis shine brightest on this material, which is eminently danceable, propulsive, slinky and engaging.”
However, the new album does not charm all critics. Martin Bandyke, a special writer for the Detroit Free Press, argues that the band delivered a “lukewarm disc.”
The new album release will coincide with the release of albums by other music favorites including James Taylor, Lenny Kravitz, and the Spin Doctors. The new album comes out five years after the last album by the Chili Peppers entitled “Stadium Aradium.”
