Redemptive Film Competition Offers Full Tuition Scholarship to Winner
A full tuition scholarship to an award-winning film school awaits the winner of this year's ReelDreams Film Competition.
And with faith-based movies such as "Fireproof" building up momentum for redemptive and Christian films, a scholarship to Regent University's School of Communication and the Arts will just be the beginning for the grand prize winner.
Last year's winner, Timothy Kay of Cleveland, Ohio, has already been involved in six to seven student films as a freshman at Regent, majoring in cinema-television.
"Regent University's ReelDreams Film Competition is designed to empower aspiring film artists to use their talents and abilities to bring creative films to the entertainment industry," the competition's organizers explain. "It aims to reveal and focus attention on works of quality from independent filmmakers to contribute to the growth and recognition of young artists and to feature positive messages that transform the minds of audiences worldwide."
Since Jan. 16, redemptive filmmakers across the United States have been submitting their 3-5 minute original films at reeldreamsfilmfest.com ahead of the Apr. 3 deadline.
Through the film competition, Regent's film school looks for original work that portrays a carefully crafted protagonist facing a moral dilemma that leads to good or bad consequences.
"Redemptive filmmaking is growing in popularity and this provides an opportunity for good redemptive filmmakers," organizers say.
After the Apr. 3 deadline, Regent's award winning cinema-television faculty will pick out 24 of the 25 semifinalists during the first round of judging. The 25th will be selected by votes from an online audience.
The 25 semifinalists will then be narrowed down to the top five, who will then be invited to the final event on May 16. Before the final event, the top five will participate in workshops with the film industry professionals who will judge the ReelDreams final event.
The grand-prize winner will be announced at Regent University's Performing Arts Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
To date, student films produced by Regent's School of Communication and the Arts have won over 205 awards.
