"Mrs. Witherspoon also stated, 'You are going to be on national news!' I advised Mrs. Witherspoon that was fine," the report adds.

Fans flocked to social networking site Twitter where many accused the "Walk The Line" star of being a "diva."

"Sorry Reese. Your name and celeb status does not entitle u to break the law. Nice try diva...," Joe tweeted.

"wow Reese Witherspoon got arrested, sounds like quite the diva as well, how embarrassing for her," Rosaleen tweeted.

"So tired of entitled celebs! Can't believe Reese pulled the 'dont u know who I am' line! I used 2 think she was so sweet #truecolors #diva ," Taye tweeted.

Witherspoon, who made a red carpet appearance in New York on Sunday, wasted no time apologizing for her behavior which occured two days prior.

"I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said," Witherspoon said.

"It was definitely a scary situation, and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job," she continued adding "The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behavior."
