News about the upcoming season of "Reign" season 3 revealed that King Francis' death is closer than expected.
A new teaser photo for an upcoming episode of the hit series was released. An image of Mary sitting on the bedside of a sickly Francis hinted the near death of the King. It was reported that the new episode will be titled "The Price," which will see Mary catering to Francis' needs as he weakens.
It was reported that another photo was released for the next episode. It showed Bash and Charles accompanying Mary as she faces the pain of seeing her love in that state. Meanwhile, she will also be dealing with the return of her mother.

The producer of the series, Laurie McCarthy, shared details on why they revealed the fact that Francis will be dying in the season to come. It was reported that they came into to the show wanting to relate the show to the history of the King. Meanwhile, she explained that she did not want fans to be too shocked with his death.
According to Entertainment Weekly, McCarthy said, "I wanted people to get used to it — there was no way around it in the storytelling. I wanted it to be an emotional journey that we all went on and that we could all feel the highs and lows of, and I wanted it to be a love story. I didn't want it to be something that shocked the fans or really anybody. I needed to process it, too."
Still, McCarthy didn't reveal exactly when and how Francis would meet his end. The show does take some liberties with history, and McCarthy admitted that the king's final journey would be "full of twists and turns."
Meanwhile, the most recent episode revealed that Francis' death will also bring in issues for their legacy. They had to deal with the return of King Antoine, which served as a surprise to the French Court. The episode showed that King Antoine came to endanger Mary and Francis' legacy. With that, Mary had to take on the responsibility of aiding Francis with his duties in the midst of his sickness.
