'Reign' Season 4: Mary Goes on Vacation in Scotland; Will She Doubt Darnley's Loyalty Soon?
In the recent episode of "Reign's" fourth and final season, Queen Mary of Scotland (Adelaide Kane) went on a vacation in Scotland. Meanwhile, a preview for the next installment suggests that she might soon doubt the loyalty of Lord Darnley of Scotland (Will Kemp).
Episode 4, which was titled "Playing with Fire," aired last Friday where Mary was shown having a vacation. Mary was having fun and playing food games with Lady Greer (Celina Sinden) when, all of sudden, Darnley showed up and asked the Queen of Scotland to marry him. Though it still needs the formalities, the queen agreed for the sake of Scotland.
On the other hand, in a conversation between Queen Elizabeth I of England (Rachel Skarsten) and Gideon (Ben Geurens), they learned that the Vatican sent people to convince England's nobles to go against Elizabeth and make their peace with Darnley and Mary.
Elizabeth's initial reaction was to give a death sentence to whoever agrees with the Vatican. However, Gideon suggested that the wiser thing to do for the Queen of England is to win back the complete loyalty of her nobles. Elizabeth decided to give Gideon's idea a try but she will not hesitate to spill more blood to keep her throne in case it fails.
Meanwhile, for the upcoming episode 5, Mary can be seen in a sneak peek video reiterating that marrying Darnley is her only chance to get Elizabeth's throne. However, James, Earl of Moray (Dan Jeannotte), tries to dissuade her and points out she barely knows the man at all. According to the synopsis, Darnley will have to do whatever he can to make Mary trust him completely so she would officially accept his marriage proposal.
The same trailer cuts to a scene where Lord Narcisse (Craig Parker) questions Darnley's loyalty in front of Mary and the other men, saying, "How are we to believe you won't side Elizabeth?" But it looks like Queen Mary's potential husband was not able to give a good answer, which made Narcisse's men roared into a thunderous laughter.
"Reign's" final season's episode 5 called "Highland Games" airs on Friday, March 17, at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
