Republicans and Democrats Believe Different Conspiracy Theories, Polls Show
A new poll shows that Americans are obsessed with conspiracy theories, but a person's political affiliation might shed insight as to which type of conspiracy theory they are more likely to believe.
The poll was conducted by the Public Policy Institute and showed that while a majority of Americans believe in one conspiracy theory or another, depending on the theory in question those on the left and the right may have varying opinions.
When it comes to the issue of global warming and man's impact on the environment, 37 percent of those surveyed thought that global warming was a hoax created by scientists and world governments to control people and their access to energy.
What is interesting is that fact that nearly 60 percent of Republicans thought that the phenomenon was made up, while only 11 percent of Democrats agreed with that notion.
When it comes to the existence of aliens at popular tourist destination in New Mexico, Republicans polled were more likely to believe that aliens landed at Roswell in 1947 as opposed to just under 18 percent of Democrats believing that extraterrestrials landed on Earth.
Yet, respondents showed little difference when asked about some of the more popular conspiracy theories regardless of political identification.
Seven percent of Americans believe that the 1969 moon landings were faked and around 15 percent of both Democrats and Republicans believe that Bigfoot is wandering in the American wilderness.
Just over half of those polled believe that there was a wider conspiracy involved in the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy, with both Democrats and Republicans split almost equally in their views.
Interestingly, about 35 percent of Republicans and Independents believe in a secretive group of elites that are trying to take over the world which is known as the New World Order with only 15 percent of Democrats suspecting such a group exists.
