The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) on Tuesday received a resolution urging the withdrawal of its youth from public schools, during the denomination's 33rd General Assembly in Chattanooga, Tennesse.
Offered by Rev. Steven Warhurst of Westminster Presbyterian Church with several sponsorships, the resolution is a shortened version of a similar resolution offered at Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) 2005 annual meeting, according to a press release.
The resolution, which calls on Christian parents to provide their children with a thoroughly Christian education after the withdrawal, will first be debated in the Bills and Overtures committee and then be brought to the floor of the assembly for final consideration and a vote.
Encouraged by the openness of the General Assembly in allowing this resolution to be fairly debated, E. Ray Moore, Jr., Director of Exodus Mandate said, We hope and pray that other evangelical denominations, especially the Southern Baptist Convention, meeting on June 21-22 in Nashville, will have the same openness concerning the resolution "To investigate homosexuality in Public Schools," offered by Drs. Bruce Shortt and Voddie Baucham."
There are two main arguments the resolution makes. One, the Bible teaches that Christian parents are to give their children a truly Christian education, teaching them to think biblically about all of life. Two, the Public Schools are not giving children a Christian education. Therefore, Christian parents should remove their children from the Public Schools and give them an education that teaches them to think biblically about all of life.
