Retro ThinkPad Image Leaked, Shows Old-School Design

Even with the popularity of today's slim Ultrabooks, the ThinkPad still has quite the following of its own after all these years. Lenovo has announced a special edition Retro ThinkPad for the 25th anniversary of the iconic laptop, and a complete image has been inadvertently released online.

Die-hard ThinkPad fans in the laptop's subreddit have spotted what could be an official image of the ThinkPad Retro floating around in a Lenovo partners promo site. The early find prompted Reddit user Liskni_si to ask the group for confirmation if this is, indeed, the ThinkPad Retro that everyone had been waiting for.

Just like ThinkPad fans would expect, the same blocky, matte-black frame surrounds the decidedly old-school keyboard of this rumored Retro edition. The blue Enter key stands out from the rest, as well as the trademark bright red TrackPoint nestled above the "B" key.

A label just above the indicator lights also says "Anniversary Edition," as the image shows the laptop running Windows 10 in its display which looks to be of the 16:10 aspect ratio.

The web page where the image was first leaked is still available in Google's cache as of this time, where the supposed official image of the Retro ThinkPad was used as part of a bidding promo offering "a Limited Edition 25th Anniversary ThinkPad."

The image was quickly pulled out by Lenovo, perhaps to wait for the official unveiling before putting the bid promo back online.

The Retro ThinkPad, while a throwback device in terms of design, is rumored to pack some of the latest hardware available today. The laptop will also be much thinner than the original, reportedly measuring just 15 millimeters thick.

The screen will also have slimmer bezels and will be driven by current-gen processors, memory and solid-state drives, as Digital Trends notes.
