'Revenge' Canceled by ABC; Season 4 Finale Will Be the Last Episode

'Revenge' has been canceled after four seasons. The show, which was a breakout hit in its first season, suffered a slump during its second season and never fully recovered, prompting ABC to pull the plug on the series.

"We can officially tell our fans that this will be the end of the story," said executive producer Sunil Nayar to Entertainment Weekly, who first reported the news of the cancellation.

"We've been talking to the network and we all just wanted to make sure that we felt very confident. Now that everybody has seen the finale—which is fabulous—everybody understands that as much as we all adore the show, it has hit exactly the mark it needed to end. This is the series finale of 'Revenge' that will be airing in a couple of weeks."

Many fans predicted that this would be the final season of the show, especially after the death of one of its major characters. After her character blew up Grayson Manor while she was still inside, Madeleine Stowe confirmed her character Victoria's death as she told E! News, "This is my last season."

"I think that it's still up in the air for the rest of the cast members," said the actress. "I think there are people who really love the show and want to go on with the show."

After news of the show's cancellation on April 29, cast members past and present, including Emily VanCamp, Gabriel Mann, Christa B. Allen, Ashley Madekwe, Barry Sloane, and Justin Hartley took to Twitter to reflect their experiences on the show.

"Four unbelievable years with the most incredible cast and crew. Could not be more grateful for the experience," wrote VanCamp. "I am utterly overwhelmed with all the Revenge love I'm reading."

Mann thanked the fans as he tweeted, "We couldn't have done it without the most passionate, brilliant fandom in the world."

The series finale of 'Revenge' will air on Sunday, May 10 on ABC.
