Mike Pompeo admitted he ‘did not do what I should have done to fix’ the CIA
After suggesting that the Central Intelligence Agency might have played a role in the assassination of his uncle which the government publicly concluded was the act of lone gunman Lee Harvey Oswald, Kennedy identified himself as “the only one that can unravel that agency capture.”
Kennedy’s comment reflects the belief that intelligence agencies and the Executive Branch, in general, have amassed too much unchecked power.
Kennedy noted his daughter-in-law’s experience working for the CIA, bringing up her description of 20,000 CIA workers as “patriotic Americans and good public servants.” Based on her analysis, this group of CIA workers accounts for the overwhelming majority of the 24,000 employed by the agency.
Kennedy also mentioned a recent conversation he had with Mike Pompeo, who served as CIA director at the beginning of the Trump administration and was later appointed secretary of state. Pompeo reportedly told Kennedy, “When I was at the CIA, I did not do what I should have done to fix that agency.”
Despite differing political views regarding foreign policy, Pompeo reportedly expressed agreement with Kennedy’s position on the CIA, telling the candidate that “the entire upper echelon of that agency is made up of individuals who do not believe in the democratic institutions in the United States of America.”
Carlson pointed to Pompeo as the person responsible for convincing former President Donald Trump not to release documents related to the JFK Assassination. As Kennedy asserted, federal law required the release of all documents related to his uncle’s assassination by 2017. He surmised that the failure to do so stems from a desire to protect an “institutional interest” of the CIA.
