RGIII Acknowledges Some Will Question Season Opener Performance

Robert Griffin III, the Washington Redskins quarterback, is not going easy on himself eight months after returning to the football field in a season opener loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Griffin and his Redskins fell short to veteran QB Michael Vick and his Eagles in a 33-27 loss Monday night. While Griffin's return to the field was the first since undergoing surgery to repair his torn LCL and ACL last January, the Christian QB is not blaming his injury for his subpar performance.

Although he completed 30-of-49 passes for 329 yards along with two touchdowns and two interceptions, the first half of the game was not a good one for Griffin. The former Heisman trophy winner and Baylor University graduate was only 5-of-11 for 53 yards in the first half of the game.

I'm responsible for the way I play. I didn't play very well in the first half," Griffin said in an ESPN report. "You move on from it. I'm not going to sit here and say I was rusty. I have to be accountable for that."

Griffin missed an entire preseason to make sure his knee was ready for the start of the regular NFL season.

Still, the QB insisted that he was comfortable coming off of his extensive injury for his first full game.

"I was comfortable out there and I felt good," Griffin told ESPN. "I was able to escape the pocket and move around."

However, he acknowledged that his team was not up to par for their season opener Monday night.

"I think just we didn't play well. You guys can sit here and pick apart technique," Griffin said. "Is he rusty? Did he not play well enough? I just think we didn't play well in the first half at all. There's no other way around it."
