Richard Dreyfuss' Son Reveals He Was Sexually Assaulted by 'Sexual Predator' Kevin Spacey
The son of actor Richard Dreyfuss is the latest to accuse actor Kevin Spacey of sexual misconduct.
Harry Dreyfuss revealed in an essay published by BuzzFeed that Spacey groped him when he was 18 when he rehearsed lines with him and his father for "Complicit," directed by the "House of Cards" actor.
It happened one night when the three of us were alone in Kevin's apartment rehearsing my father's lines. My father didn't see, and I didn't tell him about the incident for many years. Instead, I spent the next nine years telling people the story at parties for laughs.
He said that laughing at the incident was a way for him to feel that he was not a victim and that he could make this story his own. However, this could only go on for so long as his college and theater friends, who knew of people who experience the same, made him realize that the situation is not something to make a joke out of.
Only around that time, which is four or five years after the incident happened, did the younger Dreyfuss finally told his father about it. Clearly, he was furious. Why he decided to keep quiet, he said:
I was protecting my dad's career. I was protecting Kevin, who my dad surely would have tried to punch. I was protecting myself, because I thought one day I'd want to work with this man.
Adding his experience to the many more relayed by Anthony Rapp and a number of "House of Cards" staff, Harry branded Spacey as a "sexual predator."
As the allegations against Harvey Weinstein came rolling in, and so many women I know posted their stories of sexual abuse during the #MeToo campaign, I came to see how important it is to add my voice to the people who are demanding a better world. A world in which powerful men are no longer allowed to feel safe to do this, or far worse. In retrospect, what disgusts me about Kevin was how safe he did feel. He knew he could fondle me in a room with my father and that I wouldn't say a word. He knew I wouldn't have had the guts. And I didn't.
Netflix recently fired Spacey from "House of Cards" and cancelled an upcoming film that they were working with. The actor, who is reportedly seeking rehabilitation as allegations of sexual misconduct against him pile up, was also dropped by his publicist and agency.
