'Rick And Morty' Season 3 Spoilers: A Return To Dog World?

The Adult Swim animated TV series "Rick and Morty," which follows the intergalactic adventures of awkward teenager Morty and his alcoholic scientist grandfather Rick, has been renewed for a third season. There is no word yet from its show creators on what the characters will be up to or who Rick and Morty will be encountering in their journeys.

But, according to Movie Pilot, Season 3 may revisit some of "Rick and Morty" creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland's earlier works. The outlet says that, in Season 3, the characters may travel to Dog World. "Dog World" is the title of the unaired animatic pilot that Roiland created for Cartoon Network in 2012. The "Rick and Morty" theme song has its origins in "Dog World."

Though the show's creators have revealed little about Season 3, there may actually be some truth to this theory. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter back in October, Roiland and Harmon talked about their plans for Season 3, with Roiland saying that nothing big has been "fleshed out" but that "there are definitely little seeds."

Harmon also answered, saying, "I rewatched both seasons a couple nights ago, and now I'm excited about revisiting stuff in season three because I was so phobic about revisiting stuff in season two." He added, "Now, we can fade in on Blips and Chitz because we've already proven that the show isn't going to start eating itself, and that will feel even more limitless if we go back to a couple things that we really enjoyed doing."

Harmon also assured fans that Mr. Meeseeks will appear in Season 3, saying that he has made it a personal promise to himself that Mr. Meeseeks will pop up. "I'm going to force Mr. Meeseeks into Season 3," he said.

Adult Swim announced that "Rick and Morty" had been renewed for a third season on August 12, 2015. Writing for Season 3 began on November 2. No official premiere date for Season 3 has been announced.
