Team Still Working on 'Rick and Morty' Season 3; Is 2017 Launch Possible?

"Rick and Morty" season 3 has no premiere date yet. It appears that production is taking longer than expected and creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland take responsibility for the delay.

"I don't have a release date for season 3. It's not that I know it and I'm not allowed to say it; it's [Adult Swim's] domain. What I will tell you is it's late because of us, it's late because of me," Harmon said at Sundance via Screenrant.

"If Justin were here he'd agree. He and I would go, 'Yeah, we f—ed up,' and it's hard to put your finger on how we f—ed up. 'Rick and Morty' keeps taking longer and longer to write, and I don't know why," he went on to say.

It is not a secret that Roiland and Harmon are perfectionists when it comes to the show and the pressure to deliver is just on the increase.

Due to its popularity and the growing excitement for "Rick and Morty" season 3, the duo would want Rick and Morty's return to be perfect.

Harmon admitted to Shockya.com last year that "it's been really hard" weaving the show's highly anticipated new season, which the co-creators set a late 2016 premiere target for.

"I mean it's just because the expectations and what we've done, looking at what we've done, looking at how it's been received," Roiland explained.

"We don't want to have a bad episode that's universally considered oh, that's Rick and Morty's — that may arguably exist already but I dunno," he went on to say.

"Rick and Morty" season 3 is also going to have 14 episodes, which is three more than the previous season. This should entail more work.

Adult Swim is yet to announce a premiere date as it looks like production is still ongoing. However, fans could only hope "Rick and Morty" season 3 will make it this year.
