'Rick and Morty' Season 3 Release Date News: To Return in 2017?

American adult animated television series "Rick and Morty" is going to return for its third season but the question of when it will premiere still remains uncertain.

According to reports, the show was renewed by Adult Swim even before the second season ended. And since the finale episode of season 2 ended with a major cliffhanger, fans of the show can't wait to move on to the next season.

There's no specific date on when it will be back but the source stated that there was a hint in the finale post-credits sequence. International Business Times detailed that Mr. Poopy Butthole, from season 2's fourth episode, showed up in the credits. After being crazy with a pizza delivery guy, he ended the video saying, "Tune in to Rick and Morty season 3 in like a year and a half or longer to see how we unravel this mess."

A year-and-a-half already sounds like a long time but as noted in Master Herald, there's a high chance that it will indeed take that long to catch brand new episodes of "Rick and Morty." The source said that the earliest the third season will hit Adult Swim again is on March 5, 2017.

But that isn't the first time though that the creators and executive producers Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland made a long gap between seasons. The first season of the animated show premiered on Dec. 2, 2013 and ended on April 14, 2014. It was followed up with season 2 by July 26, 2015, after a gap of one year and three months.

However, there might be a chance that it will be a shorter wait as Movie Pilot reported that a voicemail-box number was posted in the show's Facebook page. The hotline sign-off indicated a "we'll see you next year" line which was immediately interpreted by many to be the return of "Rick and Morty" in 2016.
Whichever is true, fans will have to watch out for more updates.
