Rick Perry and Herman Cain - Would God Tell Them to Run for President? (VIDEO)
Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, in a speech Saturday, told the assembly that God convinced him to run for the presidency.
In a speech that touched on his personal life, Cain spoke of his faith and said, “That’s when I prayed and prayed and prayed. I'm a man of faith; I had to do a lot of praying for this one, more praying than I've ever done before in my life. And when I finally realized that it was God saying that this is what I needed to do, I was like Moses. 'You've got the wrong man, Lord. Are you sure?'"
Cain, who has been defending against accusations of inappropriate sexual advances against women while he chaired the National Restaurant Association, is not the first politician who has claimed that God has commanded his or her actions.
It was reported in 2005 that George W. Bush, while addressing an Israeli-Palestinian conference, explained that he was on a mission from God, and claimed that God had told him to take up arms against terrorist in Afghanistan.
In a statement which spoke of the criticisms Perry had been receiving on the campaign trail, Mrs. Perry likened her husband’s decision to run to the parable of the “burning bush”, which is the bush from which God spoke to Moses.
Still, if God commanded Cain to run for the Presidency, would he command Perry to do the same?
