Rihanna Donates $1.75 Million to Hospital: 'My Way of Giving Back'

Rihanna has donated $1.75 million to a hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados in memory of her late grandmother, who died earlier this year.

The music star has decided that a donation to the hospital was the best way to honor the memory of her late grandmother. The singer is said to have been close to her grandmother, calling her "Gran Gran Dolly."

According to E! Online, the pop star has donated the massive sum of money to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown in the name of her grandmother, who passed away this past summer.

The hospital will put the money towards the radiation department, which will now be renamed Clara Brathwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.

Rihanna confirmed to E! that she had made the generous offer to the hospital, saying, "This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program…I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend them."

In June, Rihanna shared with her fans the death of her grandmother, posting on her Twitter account: "Goodbye #grangranDOLLY get your beauty rest until I see you."

Rihanna also previously confirmed that she had honored her grandmother in a different way; by getting a tattoo inked across her chest in her memory. She previously did that after Clara Brathwaite lost her battle with breast cancer in June.

Meanwhile in other Rihanna news recently the singer vented her relationship woes after purchasing a multi-million dollar mansion in the Pacific Palisades.

A frequent Twitter user, the "We Found Love" song posted a photo of one of her "Rihanna Cards" about "being single."

"Being single sucks," read the image. "The only thing I get to do anymore is whatever the [expletive] I want to do."

Despite conflicting reports about her relationship with Chris Brown, longstanding rumors of their reconciliation persist in the media. Furthermore, Rihanna was reportedly outraged that Brown was still hanging out with his ex-girlfriend Karreuche Tran.

"Never underestimate a man's ability to make you feel guilty for his mistakes," Rihanna cryptically added to Twitter earlier this month.

The singers are allegedly planning to spend Christmas together in Rihanna's native Barbados, according to the Mirror U.K.

The 24-year-old's new 11,000-square-foot home is complete with seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, an outdoor spa, pool, and sprawling grounds surrounded by mature oak and sycamore trees, according to Daily Mail.

"I literally wake up every morning at 530 ish and stare at my pool til the sun comes up! Just waiting! #isthismylife," the "Diamonds" singer posted to Twitter on Tuesday.

The purchase comes just months after Rihanna bought her mother, Monica Braithwaite, a brand new 5-bedroom home in Barbados.

Last month, Rihanna released her latest album "Unapologetic" which contains the hit songs "Stay" and "Diamonds," among others. The singer's seventh album also sees features by Chris Brown and Eminem.
