Her lawyer said that she is “very saddened and very apologetic for the situation that she is in right now.”

She had initially denied her arrest on Twitter. Just after the incident, the 2010 Miss USA tweeted: “Let’s clear things up now. I’m NOT in Michigan and I’m NOT in jail! Wrong Fakih.”

The tweet was later removed.

Fakih was the first Arab American to with the Miss USA title in 2010. She was born in Lebanon and raised in New York before moving to Michigan in 2003.

Last year, Fakih was embroiled in another scandal after pictures from a 2007 “Stripper 101” contest appeared. At that time, she had said: "I was just being silly and jumping up and there were a few pictures exchanged. I know it looks really negative but it's not really what you've seen. I didn't do anything wrong."
