Rio Olympics 2016 Closing Ceremony Performers and List of Celebrities Expected to Attend; Date, Start Time, TV Channel and Live Streaming

Expect a Mardi Gras-themed Olympics closing ceremony in Brazil on Sunday. The sports fans in attendance can finally enjoy a lighter mood and festive environment as the Rio Games conclude. Creative director Rosa Magalhaes is once again taking charge of the preparation to showcase the well-known fanfare.

There are two major events to expect in the closing day. First is the extinguishing of the Olympic Fire that blazed for sixteen days. The said fire was lit by Vanderlei de Lima in the opening ceremony as customary to each edition of the Olympics. Secondly, Rio De Janeiro will pass the Olympic flag to Japan, the next host for the 2020 Games.

Looking forward to Tokyo Games

During the event, fans can also glimpse the probable elements that Tokyo would provide four years from now. Each host country has developed an unwritten rule to make a short video presentation about what they can offer so Japan is expected to make an early showcase.

Meanwhile, there are three national anthems to be played in Sunday as the curtain closes. First is the national anthem of Greece who is the perpetual owner of the Olympics. Historically, Olympics was made in honor of the Olympians of Greek gods. Then the "Hino Nacional Brasileiro" will immediately follow as the host country. Japan will cap the ceremony with "Kimigayo" or their national anthem.

Kyogo to perform 'Carry Me'

To set the lighter tune, "Carry Me" by Norwegian icon Kyogo is going to be performed live with Julia Michaels. Kyogo said that it is a huge honor to showcase his latest single at the Olympic closing event because he is a huge sport enthusiasts ever since. He also added that Rio Games is going to be a defining moment in his career because not everyone is given the same opportunity to perform to an audience coming from all across the globe.

There are several rumors about the list of celebrities that will grace the event but the organizers are not yet giving any details. There is information though that Rio is trying to make the list short to retain the formality of the event. It is now safe to assume that the closing ceremony will focus on the contingents. The committee said that this is done to avoid confusing the games into a rock star concert.

How can I watch?

Now for the sports fans at home, NBC is going to have a full TV coverage of the event starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 20. The network is also providing a live streaming aired by NBCOlympics.com.
