'Riverdale' Season 2 News: The CW Renews Archie Series for Another Cycle

There's good news for "Riverdale" fans. The CW series has been officially renewed for a second season, which means more dramatic and mystery-filled episodes are in store.

According to Deadline, "Riverdale" is the first CW show in its freshman run to get a renewal order from the network this season. Other shows like "Frequency" and "No Tomorrow" still hang in the balance.

The renewal is likely the result of stellar ratings when it comes to delayed and digital viewing. Its Live and Same Day ratings are not very impressive, but its saving grace comes from streaming numbers. The publication states that its ratings have been increasing 78 percent in adults aged 18 to 34, which is the prime demographic companies always pay attention to. It is particularly popular with women, though, as the numbers also indicate.

Fans can rest assured knowing that "Riverdale" is safe for at least another season. In the meantime, they can look forward to the show's upcoming episode, titled "In a Lonely Place."

As previously reported, the next episode will see Jughead's father (Skeet Ulrich) re-entering his life and promising to change for the better. Jughead, of course, has some negative feelings about his dad, but he does love him enough to give him another chance. However, Jughead's father will get into a fight with Fred (Luke Perry), since the two have a complicated past.

Meanwhile, the murder mystery surrounding Jason Blossom's death continues. Significant evidence will suddenly get destroyed and based on the teaser trailer, it looks like the police have a new suspect in mind: Jughead (Cole Sprouse). He is seen being taken into custody and he even asks for a lawyer while being questioned.

Elsewhere, Veronica (Camila Mendes) fights with her mother, Hermione (Marisol Nichols), and Betty (Lili Reinhart) is faced with a tough decision following an offer from Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch).

"Riverdale" season 1 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
