'Road House' reboot to star Ronda Rousey
"Road House" is in talks for a remake, and everybody thinks the famous Patrick Swayze role can be taken down by none other than UFC women's champion Ronda Rousey.
MGM's 1989 classic originally starred Swayze, whose character is a bouncer who was hired to clean up one of the roughest and loudest bars in Missouri, The Double Deuce. The bouncer's dignity and character are tested when he is tasked to protect the town from a businessman known for corruption.
Multiple sources say MGM is in talks with screenwriters and other crew members, with production rumored to commence sometime in 2016.
Ever since it hit theaters in 1989, the movie became a breakout hit and has reached cult status until today. The remake is second to the company's reboot of another well-loved classic, "Rocky," spin-off "Creed" that will reach big screens in November.
According to Variety, Rousey has been dreaming of starring in a remake but she also made sure that she would be "respectful" in taking up precious roles. Some reports say Rousey has recently talked to Swayze's widow, Lisa Niemi. Rousey reportedly asked for Niemi's blessing, which the latter immediately gave.
If everything goes as planned, the project would mark the UFC fighter's biggest acting sideline yet. To date, the remake will be her fourth project, following "My Fight/Your Fight" with Paramount, "The Athena Project," at Warner Bros., and "Mile 22."
Meanwhile in the octagon, Meisha Tate revealed that she was "shocked" when she learned that Rousey's next opponent would be newcomer Holly Holm, citing Dana White's public declaration that she was the no. 1 contender eyed for a third shot at Rousey's belt.
Fox Sports says White has an explanation. On Wednesday's "UFC Tonight," White said Tate's two loses against the champ were already a big blow, and "if she [Tate] loses to Ronda Rousey a third time, it's a career killer."
Rousey will be putting her belt on the line against Holm on Nov. 4.
