Robber Leaves Birth Certificate Behind, Leads to His Arrest

Zachary Tentoni, 26, was arrested after committing theft in Boston. The alleged thief was captured after leaving his birth certificate and other incriminating evidence behind at the scene.

Tentoni followed a woman into the schoolyard at Harbor Middle School around midnight on Monday. He then approached her from behind and took her wallet, then fled the scene. However, during the event, Tentoni dropped his bags, which included his birth certificate and a letter addressed to him from his mother.

Police stopped Tentoni a little later and he gave them a false name. Fortunately they had a description of him from the victim, and, along with the birth certificate, were able to take him into custody. The victim was able to positively identify him at the station.

"That's what he looked like. His build and clothing description was of that man," she told police.

Tentoni was arraigned on Wednesday; prosecutors asked for $10,000 cash bail, and bail was set at $500. He reportedly has other cases pending, including first-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree larceny, and illegally operating a motor vehicle under a suspended license. Tentoni was also arrested in April for sixth-degree larceny.

Another would-be robber managed to shortchange himself during an attempted robbery at a Pasadena business. The robber bought boxing tape, and things only went downhill from there.

"The suspect gave the manager $20 to pay for the tape," Sgt. Robert Tucker told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. "When he gave him the $20, he pulled out a handgun and told him to open the register."

When the owner was unable to open the register quickly enough, the suspect attempted to open it himself. He then grew frustrated, put away his gun, took the boxing tape, and walked out of the store… leaving his $8 in change behind.

"It's nothing funny," the owner told The Tribune. "It's terrible."

No one was injured, and there has been no arrest in connection with the crime.
