Robert Downey Jr, Baby Boy Exton Elias Born
New reports have confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. welcomed a new baby boy with wife Susan, on Tuesday morning.
The "Iron Man" actor delivered a son with wife Susan at 7:24 a.m. Tuesday morning, naming him Exton Elias Downey. The news was confirmed by People magazine, through Downey's reps.
It was also confirmed that Exton weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces at birth and measured 20 inches long. Exton is the first son of film producer Susan Nicole Downey, and the second son of Robert Downey, who also as an 18-year-old son with ex-wife Deborah Falconer.
Controversy surrounded the "Sherlock Holmes" actor prior to 2001 after he was arrested several times on drug related charges, during which point his career turned for the worst. However after the actor achieved sobriety, his career again took off starting with "The Singing Detective" in 2003. Downey's first wife, actress Deborah Falconer, also left him in 2001 due to the stress of the actor's many arrests.
In 2003, Downey met Susan Levin, on the set of "Gothika." The couple married in 2005 despite the film producers concerns that the relationship would not be long lasting given the fact the Downey was a famed actor.
In an Esquire interview, Downey credited his wife for helping him quit his drug addictions. "There's no understanding for me of the bigger picture in real time in a hands-on way without her. Because it was the perfect, perfect, perfect matching of personalities and gifts," he said in an interview.
Mrs. Downey expressed surprise when Downey first revealed the news of their coming son on national television, however she told People that has since gotten over the shock. "I could never really stay mad at him, but I can tell you it genuinely wasn't something we planned to reveal," she said.
