Robert Griffin III Gets Advice From Barack Obama

Robert Griffin III, Washington Redskins quarterback who is undergoing rehabilitation for a torn ACL, recently received some advice from President Barack Obama about protecting himself.

"Good conversation with @BarackObama Wise words, & much appreciated," Griffin tweeted Sunday.

Griffin, 23, bumped into Obama while at the Verizon Center, where the pair was in attendance to watch the NCAA men's basketball tournament, where Syracuse University bested Marquette. Obama let Griffin know that he needed to protect himself, according to The Washington Post reports.

Griffin was named the NFL's offensive rookie of the year last season, but injured himself during the NFC wild-card game against the Seattle Seahawks. Still, the budding QB let his supporters know that he was recovering ahead of schedule.

"My knee is getting better every day. The doctors say I'm ahead of schedule," Griffin said in a statement released to ESPN last week. "My goal is to return healthy in Week 1 but if I'm not ready then I will wait until I am, however long that is. My first NFL season and my injury that ended it showed me a lot about the league, my team and myself."

Although Griffin received a plethora of criticism from sports pundits and fans after playing through his injury that inevitably caused him to undergo surgery, he has been vocal about thanking God during the process.

"I thank God for perspective and because of that I appreciate the support from everyone," Griffin tweeted earlier this year. "I also appreciate the criticism."

The Redskins starter spoke about ways to handle adversity in the midst of his injury. He also addressed and critics who believed that he should have been taken out of the NFC wild card game early to avoid further aggravating his knee.

"When adversity strikes you respond in one of two ways....You step aside and give in..Or you step up and fight," Griffin tweeted.

Still, the Christian QB spoke about his love for God and seemed optimistic about the future.

"Thank you for your prayers and support," Griffin tweeted earlier this year. "I love God, my family, my team, the fans, and I love this game. See you guys next season."
