Robert Pattinson Tired of Fame; Quitting Acting? Kristen Stewart Drama 'Final Straw'
Robert Pattinson is reportedly fed up with the pressures of fame and an insider claims the actor wants to start working behind the lens in a bid for privacy.
The British actor, 27, rose to worldwide stardom in 2008 following his breakout role as Edward Cullen in the film adaptations of the "Twilight" novels, and his life has never been the same. Pattinson reportedly often expressed his concerns about the pressures of fame to actress Kristen Stewart, 23, back when they were still dating and an insider claims the actor believes that shifting his career will be beneficial.
"[He] doesn't want to be famous anymore ... The cost of fame is the thing he and Kristen used to complain about all day and that hasn't changed at all for him," an alleged friend of Pattinson's told RadarOnline.com.
Pattinson, who has also dabbled in modeling, reportedly wants to turn his back on acting and start directing movies. He has previously starred in various films including "Harry Potter" and "Water For Elephants."
"[He] is looking at a whole new approach to his future and is even considering going to theater school to focus more on getting behind the camera," the source revealed.
"Rob's been talking to a lot of independent filmmakers, and the last thing he wants to do is act in another blockbuster. He would like to direct a movie one day," the source added.
While Hollywood stardom has earned Pattinson a lucrative income and global recognition, it has also cost him his privacy. Like other Hollywood stars, Pattinson is often hounded by paparazzi and subject to false tabloid rumors, which is reportedly taking a toll.
He previously touched on the downside of fame in a candid interview with GQ magazine.
"Fame is a fight to survive! Some people can't take it and freak out, but I can understand that," Pattinson told GQ Italy. "With paps hiding everywhere, it's really difficult to meet new people and have new experiences."
In 2012 Pattinson and Stewart ended their five-year relationship due to issues stemming from the actress' cheating scandal. The "Queen of The Desert" actor was left heartbroken and the media scrutiny only made matters worse.
"Rob really can't stand being famous, even though he loves his job," the source explained. "I'm sure all the hell he went through with Kristen was the final straw for him as far as fame is concerned."
