Robert Pattinson to Propose to Kristen Stewart, But Affair Lasted Months
Rob Pattinson was reportedly just weeks from proposing to girlfriend Kristen Stewart, who recently admitted to cheating on the actor.
The "Twilight" co-stars had been in a serious relationship for over three years when Stewart, 22, released a public apology last week for her "momentary indiscretion."
The actress' affair with Rupert Sanders, the director of her latest movie "Snow White and the Hunstman," is said to have lasted several months. The director, 41, is married to Liberty Ross, who portrayed Stewart's mother in "Snow White."
"Friends of Robert have told us that this was the woman that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and he was actually very close to proposing when he heard about the affair," said Dina Sansing of Us Weekly magazine.
Just days before the news broke of Stewart's cheating, Pattinson responded to rumors that he had already married his longtime girlfriend.
"No one ever knows what is true or what isn't," explained the 26-year-old actor, according to Blackbook magazine. "It's not. At least, not yet. But it is true that Kristen has always done something to me that others haven't."
While Stewart has readily come clean, it is unknown how Pattinson is reacting to the news. He is reportedly taking time apart from Stewart.
"He's hoping to get two months to himself without Kristen around just to think things through," said a source close to the actor, according to Daily Star. "She has sent him messages asking him to hook up in New York for crisis talks next week but he wants to be alone."
The British actor has received support from friends during the difficult time, including condolences from Katy Perry.
Pattinson is "angry, hurt and upset and is sick and tired of people taking sides already," according to the source, who noted that Perry "has been a rock" for the actor.
Whether the couple will split or not, both actors are slated to appear together at MTV's Video Music Awards in September as well as at the promotional tour of the last "Twlight" film, "Breaking Dawn: Part 2" later this year.
Coping with the aftermath of her mistake, Stewart is reportedly "devastated."
"It was a mistake and a complete lapse in judgement," said a source close to the situation speaking to People magazine. "She wasn't having an affair with Rupert. It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn't have happened. She never meant to hurt anyone. She's a good person who just made a bad choice."
