Robin Thicke, Paula Patton Split After 8 Years of Marriage: Cheating Rumors to Blame?
Robin Thicke and Paula Patton have split after over eight years of marriage. The singer and actress didn't reveal the reason behind their sudden split— some would say at the height of their careers— but critics have pointed to rumors of Thicke's infidelity for the separation.
Robin Thicke, 36, and Paula Patton, 38, who have been together since they were teenagers, released a statement revealing the split Monday.
"We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time," they told People magazine.
Thicke has become a household name after "Blurred Lines" took the world by storm last year and Patton has been equally successful with her first starring role in movie "Baggage Claim." However, with more success has come added stress to the marriage.
Thicke was seen getting up close and personal with a woman in late January, according to a FishWrapper report. Before that, the singer was photographed with socialite Lana Scolaro while he seemingly groped her at a VMAs after party at 1OAK.
"I don't think he cared what [his wife] thought," Scolaro told Life & Style, alleging that Patton was present during the incident. "I was with him the whole night!"
After the Thicke's controversial performance and infidelity rumors, the singer didn't seem to be too concerned, though.
"My only comment about the so-called scandalous photo would be that my wife and I are perfectly in love and very happily married," Thicke explained to Star magazine.
Thicke and Patton met in 1991 when the "Lost Without You" singer was just 14 years old. They began dating a few years later, married in 2005, and had son Julian Fuego Thicke in April of 2010.
"I knew she was special the night I met her," the singer told Star magazine in September. "I was only 14, but she was already the most special girl. As a relationship progresses, you fall in love again in so many deeper ways. You realize that you need each other and you can't live without each other."
