Robocop Remake to Star Samuel L Jackson and Gary Oldman
Robocop is set to be remade and a host of Hollywood stars have been lined up to feature in the movie; Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson have now been confirmed for the Robocop remake.
Robocop was originally released in 1987 and became a great success. The film features a policeman left fighting for his life after being attacked, and transformed into a cyborg super cop.
The Robocop remake is set to be released some time next year.
Samuel L Jackson was an easy choice for the movie, and he has been quickly confirmed to play in Jose Padilha's new movie. Jackson will play the part of Pat Novak, the media mogul. Meanwhile, Gary Oldman will play Norton, the scientist behind the creation of Robocop.
Jose Padilha will direct the new Robocop remake. "It takes place in the future and it's RoboCop, but it's still going to feel like a gritty, down to earth movie…with a lot of fireworks around it", he said.
Joel Kinnaman, who previously starred in "The Killing," will play the lead role of Robocop, and he has already begun his research into the role. According to reports he has visited and seen Japanese hospital droids with "skin [that] looks so real, and they have these motors between the eyes for when they smile."
Kinnaman said, "It's just mind-blowing. We're pretty close already…It's spooky, but we're getting really close."
Padilha has confirmed that fans can expect a completely different Robocop to the original, who moved slowly and whose image is now very dated.
"It just comes from the realization that our vision of a robot 30 years from now is very different from the vision of what a robot was in the future in 1987," said Padilha.
