'Rock of Ages' Trailer Released; Features Star-Studded Cast (VIDEO)

“The Rock of Ages” movie trailer has been released by New Line Cinema and promises a trashy spectacle of rock and roll much like the ongoing Broadway musical.

The film is set to be released in theaters on June 12, Opposing Views reported, and features a truly star-studded cast, including Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Russell Crowe, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, Diego Boneta, Julianne Hough and other big-name actors.

Cruise is to play the leader of the “Arsenal” group and main star of the show, Stacee Jax. World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Kevin Nash will also make an appearance as Jax’s bodyguard.

The trailer features sound clips from a lot of the famous song that are going to be used in the movie, starting with Night Ranger’s “Sister Christian,” and ranging through to Journey’s “Any Way You Want It,” a mash-up of Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and Starship’s “We Built This City.” The story follows two young people (Boneta and Hough) hoping to make it big in the show-business industry in Los Angeles in the 80’s.

Adam Shankman, who directed another high-profile musical film in “Hairspray,” is in charge of the project. Most of the shooting is being done in Florida, with the famous concert scene performance of “Don’t Stop Believing,” popularized in recent years as the hallmark hit of TV Show “Glee,” taking place at the Hard Rock Casino, which is being made to look like the Dodger Stadium in LA.

The director spoke to Entertainment Weekly back in April about getting Cruise to play the star, saying: “I knew in my heart he would never put himself in harm’s way about taking on a part if he didn’t think he could deliver. He is going to create an incredibly indelible character, because I told him this needs to be so far out there that it’s startling.”
