'Rocket League' Free Update Released, Features 'Mutators'

Psyonix's physics-based vehicle soccer video game "Rocket League" is experiencing new changes as a new free update called "Mutators" was just recently released. Right now, the game is crazier than ever and the changes that came along have added a twist to the core experience.

According to Digital Trends, Patch v1.08 brought to the game an array of physics-altering presets and settings, making the game more desirable and over the top. It's said to have added "depth, variety and crazy rocket-powered fun to custom games."

PC Gamer detailed that with the new patch, players can expect having the ability to do simple tricks like playing with a giant ball or flying across the map "with just a few taps of the boost." There are also mutator options that change vehicle handling like the low-gravity "Moonball" mode which decreases gravity and adds more powerful rocket boosts.

The Digital Trends report also says that there's a "Beach Ball" mode for a larger and slower ball during matches and also "Demolition" wherein gravity is increased and the ball explodes whenever it touches the ground. Aside from that, there's the "Pinball" option which changes the ball into a smaller, faster and less foreseeable one. "The Time Warp" gives a slow-motion effect to the vehicles whenever they come near the ball while the "Cubic" setting turns the ball into a tumbling cube and also enables automatic recharging of the boost meters.

Players can make use any of these mutator settings at the start of any custom match. And if they want to, they can also cycle through mutators as part of the new "Mutator Mashup" 3v3 online playlist.

But the new things in the game doesn't stop there. According to a report by Wired UK, Psyonix is planning to bring in another mode which will be called as the "Snow Day." It's a hockey mutator that will have the ability to turn the grass into ice and the ball into a puck. It's a sure deal that hockey fans will greatly enjoy this upcoming mode.

The "Mutators" update is now available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
