'Rocket League' New Game Mode Update: 'Dropshot' to be Available This March
Psyonix, the developer of the vehicular soccer video game "Rocket League," has announced that a new mode will be available this March.
In a blog on the game's official website, Psyonix indicated that the new match type would be called "Dropshot." Gamers can download this on March 22 for free, just like with the previous additions. While the standard game, "Rocket League," is soccer-inspired and the "Hoop" update is a basketball game mode, "Drop Shot" will narrowly follow the gameplay found in volleyball. The trailer released shows where the mode differs in the said sport.
"Dropshot" will be played exclusively in Core 707, a hexagonal arena. Players will win once they defeat the opponent by destroying their floor panels. The ball used in the mode is "electrified." It reportedly becomes more powerful the longer it stays in the air. A player can destroy seven or 19 panels all at the same time with a single shot, depending on how charged the ball is. To score, it is not enough to just hit the panel once. A second hit is necessary to open up a hole and shoot the ball through.
Aside from the new game mode, the update will also include other new features. According to GameSpot, a new car called the Endo will also be part of the package, as well as seasonal Easter items and an "Esports Live Now" button. Players will find the latter at the top of Rocket League's main menu. There will also be links to major Rocket League livestreams. Psyonix has also included six new trophies and achievements exclusive for "Dropshot" to encourage the players to excel.
Once the "Dropshot" mode drops, "Competitive Season 3" will end. The update signals the beginning of "Competitive Season 4." There will be no off-season between the two. Those who succeeded in finishing the third installment are set to receive exclusive wheels as rewards.
The "Dropshot" mode will be available for download on March 22.
