'Rocket League' on Xbox One: Releases on February with Exclusive Content But Lacks Cross-Platform Play

"Rocket League" is finally coming to the Xbox One next year. Players will have two exclusive Battle-Cars but can only play with others in the same platform.

The update comes at the heels of news that the game has been rated for the console in Taiwan, hinting at the possibility of its release on Xbox One. Microsoft did not disappoint and announced (video below) on Thursday, Dec. 3, during The Game Awards that "Rocket League" will be available on the Xbox One in February. As to the exact date, gamers will have to wait for an update.

According to Microsoft's Major Nelson, Lawrence Hryb in real life, Xbox One players will enjoy the same features, upgrades, and content on their "Rocket League" version as can be found in the PC version of the game. In addition, the Xbox One version will have "several significant additions."

Among these are two Battle-Cars exclusive to the Xbox One. These are the Armadillo, a Battle-Car based on the Armored Personnel Carrier of the same name in "Gears of War" series, and the HogSticker, which is an alternate version of the Warthog Force Application Vehicle from the "Halo" franchise.

Bundles for three of the game's previously released DLCs, Supersonic Fury, Revenge of the Battle-Cars, and Chaos Run, will be available for $20, according to GameSpot. With these expansion packs, players will receive six Battle-Cars and more than 50 garage customization items. Access to Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine DLC will also be available upon release.

Other than these, Jeremy Dunham, vice president at Psyonix, has promised the studio will "aggressively support" the Xbox One version. Xbox One players can expect more updates like free downloadable arenas and more DLC packs in the future.

Despite these add-ons and promise of support, Xbox One gamers have expressed their dismay at the game's lack of cross-play support. The PC and PlayStation 4 versions allow some form of cross-platform play, but for Microsoft's console, Xbox One players will only be able to play with other Xbox One players.

"The Xbox platform doesn't allow for crossplay matchmaking between other systems as a general practice across all titles," responded Psyonix's official Twitter handle for the game to a question posted by a Twitter user.
