Roku Announces 5 New Streaming Devices Including One That Will Give Apple TV 4K a Run for Its Money
Roku has announced five new streaming alternatives, including a budget-friendly one, to the newly unveiled Apple TV 4K.
The company has unveiled the new Streaming sStick Plus, which gives users the ability to stream 4K Ultra high-definition (HD) and high-dynamic range (HDR) video at 60 frames per second (fps).
Roku touts "exceptional wireless performance" that offers four times the wireless range than last year's version. The best part is that it will only be priced at $69.99, which is more than $100 less than the Apple TV 4K, which offers the same streaming resolution.
Users can go bigger with the $99.99 Roku Ultra, which also includes 4K HDR video support with the same frame rate as the abovementioned Streaming Stick Plus.
This one comes with an Ethernet port for and a micro SD slot that Roku says will speed up the streaming channel load times. It also has voice recognition like the Apple offering to find content as well as a headphone jack and a remote finder button.
Roku also unveiled the regular Streaming Stick, a small but powerful streaming device that can offer HD streaming on the go. It comes with a a voice remote with TV power and volume buttons that can control compatible TV models and the Roku Streaming Stick together all for $49.99.
The cheapest streaming devices Roku has introduced are the Roku Express and Roku Express Plus, priced $29.99 and $39.99, respectively. Both offer HD streaming and are "five times more powerful" than the previous versions.
The Roku Express Plus is a must-have for owners of classic TVs as it includes options to connect via HDMI or composite A/V ports (red/yellow/white jacks).
These newly unveiled streaming devices can be used to stream 500,000 movies and television show episodes plus access to more than 5,000 channels. Roku also launched its very own channel where "hundreds of Hollywood hits and more" will be available.
This new Roku streaming lineup is now available for pre-order and will hit the stores Oct. 8 (Roku Express Plus will be exclusive to Walmart). Customers who purchase a new Roku player within the month will receive a $10 Vudu credit toward a rental or purchase.
