Ron Paul Appeals to Christians With Pro-Life Ad, Faith-Filled Message
The Ron Paul campaign has released a new ad featuring several former patients touting the GOP presidential candidate and doctor's Christian faith and pro-life stance.
The 60-second ad, titled “Always on the Right Path,” promotes Paul's experience as an obstetrician/gynecologist who has delivered more than 4,000 babies, while confirming his belief that life begins at conception – a crucial issue for many voters.
Former female patients are featured in the ad, praising Paul for his beliefs and character.
Marcie Holt, one of Paul's former patients in the ad, says, “You know you just knew that Ron cared about you. Life begins at conception, in my opinion, and as a result, I loved to go to a doctor who felt the same way.”
Kara Gore, another former patient, also praises the Texas congressman's pro-life stance, while promoting him as someone whom women can trust.
“He not only protects unborn life, but he also walks through journeys for women – and he has for years,” Gore says.
Paul is also praised for being a good Christian, something he has been less outspoken about compared to the other GOP candidates.
“It’s not hard for someone who is a Christian and who truly believes to stay on the right path, and I think that’s what kind of person Ron Paul is,” says Diane Wilson in the ad.
In the GOP race, Paul has not been very vocal about his stances on social conservative issues, relying on his economic philosophy much more than his faith to appeal to voters.
However, now that Paul is a potential front-runner with millions of dollars to spend, the congressman's campaign has been intent on increasing the breadth of his message, and that includes reaching out to voters who want candidates who share their Christian principles.
The Paul campaign has also succeeded in getting endorsements from Iowa pastors, including the Rev. Doug Holmes, pastor of Sovereign Grace Church in Dows, Iowa.
In his statement regarding his endorsement, Holmes acknowledges that he disagrees with Paul on some issues, but nonetheless describes him as the candidate who is “most in conformity with biblical principles.”
“Issue stances that appeal to me include embracing a strong pro-life position, adhering to biblical teaching on just weights and measures, the potentially crippling dangers of a debt-based economy and fractional reserve banking system, parental rights in the education and care of their children, a non-statist and voluntary approach to welfare, a non-invasive foreign policy, and a proper understanding of checks and balances in the exercise of political power not only within the Federal government, but between the Federal government and the states," the pastor adds.
According to Paul's website, Mike Heath, Iowa State Director for the Ron Paul 2012 campaign, has visited 256 churches across the state to talk about the congressman's presidential bid.
The Iowa caucus vote will take place Jan. 3, 2012.
