Ronda Rousey News: UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos wants to have Rousey as teammate at Kings MMA
UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos is hoping to have Ronda Rousey as a teammate over at Kings MMA in Huntington Beach, California.
After new UFC bantamweight queen Holly Holm knocked out "Rowdy" at UFC 193, striking coach Edmond Taverdyan was one of the people who was heavily criticized.
Taverdyan has been training Rousey since she began competing in professional mixed martial arts in 2011. But according to Dos Anjos, Rousey could use a little change in scenery and train over at Kings MMA, under the tutelage of renowned Chute Boxe Academy trainer Rafael Cordeiro.
"I think it would be great for her to come here. We have a great energy here," Dos Anjos said in an interview of MMA Fighting. "Not just because I'm training here, but Master Rafael Cordeiro has over 28 years of experience in MMA. It would be great for Ronda."
Kings MMA has been the breeding ground of the best and toughest fighters in the game. Two UFC champions train in the said facility, namely Dos Anjos, and heavyweight king Fabricio Werdum. This is another argument Dos Anjos had brought up.
"For sure, we're going to have a great camp for her here," he said. "Great training partners. Great coaches. Master Cordeiro is going to have a great fight gameplan for her. If she comes, she'll have everything she needs to get her belt back."
In another report by FOX Sports, referee Herb Dean, who was also officiating the bout claims he noticed that Rousey might not have been in the best physical shape during the fight itself.
On some level, Dos Anjos agrees with Dean's assessment, but noted that while Rousey was "having a bad day" that time, Holm was doing everything right from her end.
"She's one of the best," Dos Anjos said of Rousey. "I think she's the best in the division. She just had a bad day, but Holly Holm, she did great. She did a perfect strategy."
"She shut all the doors for Ronda," he continued. "She avoided the takedown. She beat her standing. But I think if Ronda does a longer fight camp, I think it would make a difference."
Dos Anjos will be defending his title against top contender Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone at UFC on FOX 17 on December 19th.
