Ronda Rousey vs Holly Holm Rematch News: Some Quarters Calling for Rematch
In what experts and multiple sports outlets refer to as the "biggest upset in the UFC history," number 1 contender Holly Holm has knocked out undisputed and undefeated champion Ronda Rousey on Saturday night.
Rousey's fall came as a shock to the millions of fans who have known her as the strongest and biggest female star in combat sports. Holm herself believes that the former champion deserves another shot at gold.
Right after Holm bagged the belt, many began to ask who's next in line to fight the new champion. Yahoo! broke down the possibilities, with Meisha "Cupcake" Tate being questionably first in line.
The outlet explains that the reason why a Tate vs Holm might not happen at all is because of the fear that she might get into the ring and eliminate the new champion. This means a Tate vs Rousey 3 would be possible — a battle that many fans already said they have no interest in at all.
Rousey is still the most possible fighter who will be put in line, although Holm would have to wait for the former women's champ to get back on her feet with the same passion that Holm put on the line when she stepped into the ring against a mass favorite.
Fans also took to Twitter (via MMA Junkie), demanding for a rematch, after their champion went down with one kick to the head. Although Rousey said in an Instagram post Sunday evening that she will be back after some time, many of her fans believe that she'll be back in no time to reclaim the game.
The new champion also said during an interview that she will give Rousey the rematch she deserves. "With a champion like Ronda — who has gone out of her way, above and beyond, to do great things — absolutely, she deserves a rematch," Holm said.
UFC 200 is still eight months away, but rumor has it that part two of the Rousey-Holm bout will take place in the said event.
