'Rose Red' News: Disney to Introduce Rose Red as Snow White's Sister via a Live-Action Film Feature ?
Snow White has a sister after all, and Disney is planning to make a live-action film feature about her. Originally a standalone character without any reference to the famous Disney Princess, Red Rose, is woven to the tale of Snow White as the character introduces a different way to resurrect the princess after biting the poisoned apple.
According to an exclusive report of The Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney has picked up the project using the script originally penned by Justin Merz and tweaked by Evan Daugherty. It will be produced by Vinson Films.
When Merz first wrote "Rose Red," it was not linked in any way to Snow White's story. However, when Daugherty made the tweaks to the script, the character was transported to the world of the animated beleaguered princess, and the story became a revisionist version of the beloved fairytale character's tale.
Daugherty is no stranger to the tale of Snow White as he previously penned the script of "Snow White and the Huntsman" top-billed by Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth. He is also known for his "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Divergent" movie scripts.
With the entry of Rose Red in the world of Snow White, it goes without saying that major changes to the original version of the story will happen. For one thing, it may change the way how Snow White returns from the dead as the story will zero in on the quest of Rose Red, along with the dwarves, to find a way to bring the princess back to life after taking a bite of the iconic apple. With this, will the movie get rid of another "prince charming kiss" and highlight the fact that "true love's kiss" doesn't always have to be romantic as demonstrated in other Disney movies, such as "Frozen" and "Maleficent?"
Incidentally, "Rose Red" was also the title of the American TV mini-series that ran on ABC in 2002. It was written by novelist Stephen King and focused on the adventures of a group of psychics in a haunted Seattle mansion referred to as Rose Red, which was erected on an ancient Indian burial ground.
