Rousey News: UFC Middleweight Michael Bisping Defends Rousey, ONE FC Welterweight Ben Askren Does Otherwise
Former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is still receiving some love and hate even almost three weeks after her shocker of a loss against Holly Holm.
"Rowdy" did get some appreciation from fellow UFC fighter and middleweight contender Michael Bisping. In a report by MMAFighting.com, "The Count" empathized with Rousey and compared his own knockout loss to MMA veteran Dan Henderson at UFC 100 in 2009.
"You're right, there are some comparisons in terms of the Dan Henderson thing." Bisping said. "I got knocked out and a lot of people said I was never going to come back from something like that," He added that some people had even told Bisping that he was finished.
Many of Rousey's fans have turned into instant haters after she tasted her first ever professional mixed martial arts loss at UFC 193. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans said during the FOX Sports 1 broadcast of the bout that Rousey will likely "disappear into movies."
Bisping vehemently disagrees. He believes that Rousey is just taking the time off to rest and recuperate, both physically and emotionally, and prepare herself for her return. He said it was "crazy" if people thought she wasn't going to try to win back her belt.
But while Bisping was supportive about Rousey's return, another fellow fighter was questioning it. ONE Championship welterweight title holder Ben Askren believes that "Rowdy" did "buy into her own hype", which could make it difficult for her to make a return.
"It's going to take her a long time," Askren said, referring to a video of her caught by TMZ at the Los Angeles International Airport where she was covering her face from cameras. "I think it's going to take her a long time, if ever. I mean, maybe she's going to say, 'hey, I made enough money in the movies, this fighting thing is hard, right? It's tough. I'm going to go do that (movies), it's easier.'"
