Royal Baby Watch 2013: Prince Charles on Grandparenting
In a highly anticipated moment on Monday, July 22, Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton gave birth to their first child, a baby boy. The new prince weighed in at 8 pounds and 6 ounces. The public is very excited, as is the family. It appears the new grandparents, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, are ready for their new roles and want to be a large part of the new baby's life.
William's father Prince Charles released a statement upon the arrival of the royal baby.
"Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy. Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone's life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future."
When meeting with a women's group in Wales, Prince Charles spoke about how he hopes to act as a grandparent.
"The great thing is to encourage them. Show them things to take their interest. My grandmother did that, she was wonderful," he said.
A friend of Charles told The New Zealand Herald that he expects Prince Charles to be a good grandfather.
"He will be doting, and I think he will be surprised how involved he enjoys being as the child gets a little older," the source said.
