Royal Birth Plans Underway as Kate Middleton is Due Any Day

With the world watching and waiting for the birth of the newest Royal, preparations are already being made. Security details are sweeping the hospital where Kate is due to give birth and special transportation is on standby for William, wherever he is when Kate goes into labor.

"If you think that the Queen's Jubilee was a big deal, then I think the arrival of this baby will knock your socks off," Omid Scobie of Us Magzine told ABC News.

Security details have swept through St. Mary's Hospital to ensure that everything is ready for the big day, and Kate has reportedly been to visit the hospital and check out the suite where she will give birth. Although reports stated that Kate may give birth at a hospital closer to her parents, royal protocol and safety has ensured that she will give birth at the traditional St. Mary's Hospital.

William, who is still working as a British Royal Air Force search-and-rescue pilot, has made his own preparations. The Prince has a helicopter on standby, so that he can be immediately flown to the hospital once Kate is in labor. William has pledged to be by his wife's side throughout labor and delivery, contrary to other royals who have traditionally waited outside the room.

Prince Charles was the first royal to be with his wife, Diana, as she labored with William and Harry. Per protocol, the announcement of the baby's birth will be posted at Kensington Palace for all to see; it's possible, though, that the Palace may also use media sources to announce the birth, given the intense popularity and eagerness for the newest Royal.

Queen Elizabeth will be the first person to know about the birth, and she will be personally notified by William. Then, it will be the rest of the world's turn to know. Sources state that while everyone is getting ready, William and Kate still have one big decision to make: the baby's name. That's at least one secret, along with the sex, that they are keeping to themselves for now.
