Royce Reed Compares Being On 'Basketball Wives' To Selling Her Soul

Royce Reed, the former cast member on the popular VH1 reality television show "Basketball Wives," is speaking out about feeling like she was selling her soul to be on the show.

Reed, 32, is the owner of the mentorship program and dance company Fantashique which works with young women ages five to 18. After appearing on "Basketball Wives" for four seasons where she engaged in her fair share of arguments with her co-stars, Reed recently told VH1 that she is not trying to showcase that behavior for her mentees.

"[Being on the show], I felt like I was being a hypocrite, because I'm on a show where there's like, constant fighting, and yet I'm sitting here trying to voice something different," Reed told VH1. "As much as I enjoyed the checks, it wasn't worth contradicting myself and doing something I didn't really believe in."

The dancer, mother and actress compared being on the show to selling her soul.

"I felt kinda like I was selling my soul," Reed said. "I was totally fine with the way I went out last season, you saw me doing my career, you saw me being me."

Last year, Reed wrote a personal blog post on Tumblr where she admitted that she had a different idea for the series when she initially joined the show.

"The way the show was pitched is completely different than what it has become. We pitched the show as being positive and with goal oriented and career driven woman that also like to have fun while dealing with the stresses of their exes or spouses and life," Reed wrote. "Our common bond was Basketball and we all had a child/children. Yes, the BBW brand has millions of viewers and has pulled in ratings but I have to admit I wish it would've taken a more positive route."
