Run DMC Reunion at Fun Fun Fun Fest Sold Out?
Former New York City hip-hop group Run-DMC is reuniting for its first performance in more than a decade at the Fun Fun Fun Fest this fall in Austin, Texas, and the first rounds of early bird tickets have already sold out.
The band's two surviving members, Joseph Simmons, also known as Rev. Run, and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels are set to headline the main stage of the weekend-long event which will be held from Nov. 2 - 4, according to the Associated Press.
Rev. Run, 47, and McDaniels, 48, retired from the group after their DJ, Jam Master Jay, real name Jason William Mizell, was shot and killed in 2002.
On Tuesday it was confirmed that the group, which has sold over 15 million albums in the U.S. alone, would perform at the popular festival. Organizers have specifically honored the group by placing its "Fun Fun Fun Fest" festival name in the style of the group's trademark logo.
While there are still two rounds of tickets available for purchase, critics predict that they, too, will sell out shortly after going on sale.
Run-D.M.C was formed in Hollis, Queens, in 1981 and the group signified the advent of the new school of hip hop music.
Their 1984 debut album "Run–D.M.C" almost immediately went platinum, and the group became the first in that particular genre of music to have a gold album.
The group was previously applauded for its dominant influence on hip-hop music, which was able to impact even the "most stubborn demographic group," according to rollingstone.com.
"Run-D.M.C. took hardcore hip-hop from an underground street sensation to a pop-culture phenomenon. Although earlier artists, such as Grandmaster Flash and the Sugar Hill Gang, made rap's initial strides on the airwaves, it was Run-D.M.C. that introduced hats, gold chains, and untied sneakers to youth culture's most stubborn demographic group: white, male, suburban rock fans," a Rolling Stone biography states.
The group is expected to perform classic hits including "It's Like That," and "Walk This Way" at the highly anticipated event.
The festival, which was launched in 2006, unites various acts from the hip-hop, indie-alternative, metal and comedy worlds.
A third round of 3-day pass tickets go on sale on July 12 and can be found by clicking here.
