'Rurouni Kenshin' Release Date News 2017: Bandai Launching Anime's First Mobile Game
One of the most famous manga and anime franchises from Japan, "Rurouni Kenshin," is getting its first free-to-play mobile app to be developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
"Rurouni Kenshin," also known as "Samurai X," is a Japanese manga that first appeared in 1994. The story follows the life of the former assassin Hitokiri Battosai and is set at the 11th year of Japan's Meiji period. The franchise's story escalates when Battosai decides to become Himura Kenshin, a swordsman wandering around Japan helping people in need.
News about a Rurouni Kenshin mobile game broke after Shueisha's Jump SQ magazine made the announcement through its Twitter page. Based on the same social media post, the game will reportedly be titled "Rurouni Kenshin, Meiji Kenkaku Romantan: Kengeki Kenran."
Bandai Namco Entertainment's "Rurouni Kenshin" mobile game is expected to be released later this year and will be available on both iOS and Android platforms. While the app is free-to-play, future players can also expect in-app purchases, just like any other app in the market.
Fans of the franchise can get the latest updates about "Rurouni Kenshin, Meiji Kenkaku Romantan: Kengeki Kenran" by pre-registering through its official website. Bandai Namco Entertainment has yet to divulge more details about the mobile game.
ComicBook reports that the mobile game's tagline, when translated from its official website, reads: "I will cut open a path to the future with my sword." Siliconera adds that the upcoming title is being described as a "sword fighting action battle" which is pretty much a given.
The same ComicBook report mentioned that the upcoming mobile game will likely adapt the new story arc from the franchise's creator Nobuhiro Watsuki that is expected to be released this spring.
"Rurouni Kenshin" is one of the classic Japanese manga franchises that still gets plot updates from its original creator. Just last November and December 2016, Watsuki and his wife released the "Rurouni Kenshin Side Story: The Ex-Con Ashitarō" arc that serves as a prequel to the one that will be published in the coming months.
