Russell Brand to Host MTV Movie Awards
Russell Brand has been tapped to host the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, promising his fans the event will be "more impressive than 'The Avengers.'"
The British comedian is known for his off-the-cuff sense of humor, and will lead the event in Los Angeles' Gibson Amphitheatre for the first time.
"This MTV Movie Award will be more impressive than 'The Avengers' and you won't have to wait an hour for someone to Hulk out," said Brand.
The 36-year-old is the "perfect" choice for hosting the film awards because of his "rock 'n' roll sensibility and fearlessness," MTV said on Thursday.
"With his amazing ability to span the full spectrum of comedy from the most high to low brow, Russell's smart, unpredictable wit uniquely connects him to our audience," said MTV President Stephen Friedman in a statement.
"His rock 'n' roll sensibility and fearlessness give us the perfect partner with whom to take a leap of faith with as we meld the worlds of movies and music together on one very special night," the executive added.
Brand joins the ranks of past hosts that include Jason Sudeikis, Aziz Ansari, Will Smith, Jimmy Fallon, and Justin Timberlake.
The MTV Movie Awards is one of cable television's most-watched programs and will see superstars of today including Emma Stone, Kristen Stewart, and Mila Kunis, and many more.
Presenters also include Andrew Garfield, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Mark Wahlberg, and Chris Hemsworth.
"The Hunger Games" and "Bridesmaids" are nominated in eight categories each at this year's event.
The awards ceremony will take place on MTV at 9 p.m. on June 4.
Brand is no stranger to MTV awards ceremonies, and it was at 2008's MTV Video Music Awards when he met his ex-wife Katy Perry. The couple announced their split after 14 months of marriage in December.
"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage," said Brand in a statement at the time. "I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."
