Crowe: Babies Created Perfect, Circumcision Is 'Stupid'

Hollywood star Russell Crowe has used his Twitter account to explain how he believes God has made all babies perfect, and that he believes circumcision to be “barbaric and stupid.”

He later, however, apologized for causing any offense to religious groups, saying he understood his words could be misinterpreted as mocking religious rituals and traditions. He tweeted: “I am very sorry.”

On Thursday, Crowe originally gave a strong rebuke of circumcision, saying it was “immoral.”

However, following a backlash from religious communities he quickly apologized less than 24 hours later on Friday. Crowe revealed he did not mean to offend anyone saying, “My personal beliefs aside I realize that some will interpret this debate as me mocking the rituals and traditions of others. I am very sorry.”

He added: “I have a deep and abiding love for all people of all nationalities, I'm very sorry that I have said things on here that have caused distress.

“This is a great forum for communication, I, like any human have my opinions and you all have yours, thank you for trusting me with them,” he concluded.

Director and actor Eli Roth also joined the debate to defend Crowe. Speaking on Twitter, Roth said Crowe was “One of the nicest people I have ever been lucky enough to meet and work with. AND RESPECTFUL OF ALL RELIGIONS.”

Attacking Crowe’s critics, Roth then said: “What's more disturbing is that there are real antisemitic incidents every day that they clearly could care less about. They attack a friend.”

In Crowe’s original outburst he had said: “Circumcision is barbaric and stupid. Who are you to correct nature? Is it real that GOD requires a donation of foreskin? Babies are perfect.”

One Twitter user tried to convince Crowe that there were scientific reasons for circumcision. However, Crowe quickly argued back, “My friend, 'human' science has caused too much damage, don't be a moron.”

Along the same lines, another Twitter user told Crowe that circumcision was more hygienic and that “nobody remembers it.” To which Crowe blasted back: “Hygienic? Why don't you sew up your a** then?”

But following a more widespread backlash, Crowe officially apologized if anyone interpreted his words as mocking any religions or their rituals.

However, he again added: “I will always stand for the perfection of babies, I will always believe in God, not man's interpretation of what God requires.”

One of his Twitter followers quickly tried to widen the debate to abortion, asking Crowe what his views on that controversial subject was. Crowe quickly responded: “Abortion should always be a woman's choice, there is no benefit to 'forced' motherhood...you got it? don't like it then bye.”
