Russell Wilson Aims to Help Teenager in Need of Heart Transplant
Russell Wilson is hoping to help find a heart for a 16-year-old boy who needs a transplant.
Wilson, the 26-year-old Christian quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, recently took to his Instagram to post a video with a teenager named Chris. In the video, Wilson asked thousands of social media followers if anybody had an extra heart for the teenager, who needs a transplant.
"So, we're at Seattle Children's Hospital right now and we're with Chris. He's 16 years old," Wilson said in the video. "My man needs a heart transplant. Anybody got an extra heart?"
He went on to add his own personal touch to the video, as the reigning Super Bowl champion gearing up for another round of playoffs.
"Rootin' for you guys. Thank you guys so much," Wilson wrote. "Go Hawks."
The QB has made it his mission to help children with terminal illnesses. Last month, the Seattle Children's Hospital and Research Foundation launched a $100 million initiative to support research aimed at curing childhood cancer.
Wilson signed on to help the initiative called "Strong Against Cancer" that seeks to end childhood cancer within the next decade. The quarterback explained why it was important to be involved in the initiative.
"Annually, pediatric cancers receive less than 3 percent of the National Cancer Institute budget, which is why it's so important for all of us to support initiatives like Strong Against Cancer," Wilson said in a Seattle Childrens Hospital release. "The scientists working on immunotherapy have the treatment and the results to get us to a place where childhood cancer is no worse than a common virus. All that's needed now are the resources to bring it to every kid who needs it."
Wilson consistently tweets Scriptures to over 975,000 followers. Recently he wrote, "we should be the #Change in the World that we want to see!!!"
