S.F. Bay Area T.V. Station Wins 'Full Power' NRB Award
San Francisco-based broadcaster and Total Living Network affiliate KTLN was named Full Power Television Station of the Year by the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB).
SAN FRANCISCO San Francisco-based broadcaster and Total Living Network affiliate KTLN was named Full Power Television Station of the Year by the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), who presented their Annual Media Awards this past Saturday on Feb. 18.
To win the award, KTLN, which is touted as the only Bay Area television station dedicated to Christian family programming, had to display innovative and creative programming through its daily schedule in addition to being a force for the Gospel in its coverage of local religious events, issues and stories, NRB membership director Gina Ebhardt told The Religion Wire.
One KTLN program, People Like You, which takes a closer look at Gods people in the Bay Area, won an Emmy Award last year for a segment entitled Every 15 Minutes, which related the dangers of drunk driving.
Station general manager Debbie Fraser believes that KTLN is a different approach to Christian television, and she wants to let people know about it.
I see it as a light, a positive influence available in most every home in the Bay Area, Fraser told The Religion Wire. It is always there, ready to provide encouragement and hope every day. To me, that is powerful, and I love being part of it.
Jerry K. Rose, president and CEO of Christian Communications and founder of the Total Living Network, said KTLN, which has a staff of less than 15 employees, is a David in a Goliath market.
We are a specialty broadcaster filling a spiritual niche in the marketplace, Rose added. In a top 10 television market like San Francisco, it takes a lot of hard work and creative energy to get people to the set on a regular basis. We have both. The TLN/KTLN producing team and the dedicated, community minded team at KTLN gives us a distinct advantage.
